The strange lighting (it was midday but lots of clouds and shadows) gives the shot a very unique effect. Arctics look their best in winter coat when there's lots of snow on the ground. It had snowed the evening prior but unfortunately, the majority of it melted throughout the day.

If you click the link on this page to our main website, Kerwood Wildlife Education Center, you'll notice there is nothing up yet but the home page and that none of the links are as yet operational! Nearly half of our new site is actually done but won't be posted until all pages are complete. The expansion from Kerwood Wolf Education Centre to Kerwood Wildlife Education Center is so much more in paperwork than we first thought! If in the meantime you'd like to see more of our wolves feel free to visit our old (but still current for the time being) website at: http://www.kerwoodwolf.com.

Ma-Hohta

This is Ma-Hohta, one of our center's wolf puppies who is being raised as a permanent Outreach ambassador. We love this shot that, for some reason, makes her look almost surreal. Although the lighting effect has given Ma-Hohta some unique coloration, in reality she is a black pup with shades of grey on her body and some white highlights on her fur around her face and forehead. This photo will soon be featured as one of the shots on Kerwood's Photos Of The Week which can be accessed from the home page of our main website. Ma-Hohta is 3 months old.

Meet Our Newly Rescued Coyotes

Meet Shelby and Brody, Kerwood's newly rescued coyotes.

On August 15th we took in two young unreleasable coyotes from Beacon Of Light Wildlife Centre, a government licensed wildlife rehabilitation faclility a few hours away from us.

That's Shelby on the left and her brother Brody on the right. They were taken to Beacon Of Light from two separate homes where the people knew each other. Although the center was told these two are 4 months old it is quite obvious they were not born this spring. They were probably born last spring and are just over a year old. Our guess is that they'd been taken illegally from the wild before or shortly after their eyes opened and kept as pets until they became too much to handle.

Since both are extremely social with humans releasing them back into the wild is not an option. They will remain here at our non-profit wolf center where we are committed to giving them a wonderful home for the rest of their lives.

Shelby and Brody need more spacious quarters than their emergency pen affords them. The cost of constructing a proper habitat for Shelby and Brody is estimated to be between $2500-$3500. This includes not only secure fencing but also shelter and den areas and habitat "furniture" such as hollowed out logs, brush piles, tree stumps, boulders etc.

If you wish to help provide habitat for Shelby and Brody, Kerwood Wolf Education Centre accepts PayPal at this email address: info@kerwoodwolf.com

* Update: The link above will soon be inactive as it directs you to our old website.
